Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on August 24, 1972, on the 24th of August 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay was introduced to art from her grandmother Denise. The aunt who was a night shift nurse, let her pursue art literature and the theater during daylight hours. She introduced DuVernay the 1961 film West Side Story and DuVernay became enthralled by the film. DuVernay discovered by watching her mother's example the power of art as an activist vehicle. DuVernay visited Selma during the summer and was in awe of the idea to film about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a graduate from Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in 1990. DuVernay went to the University of California Los Angeles after graduating, where she received diplomas in English and African American Studies. DuVernay began producing television news at the age of a young student. She worked as a CBS News intern during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being asked to look over the rubbish at the home of one of jury. Her work left her dissatisfied by journalism and she decided to move towards the field of publicity. DuVernay was hired straight from college to be an intern at the studio that was small. The company she founded for her own PR, The DuVernay Agency was created in 1999. Apart from PR, the agency launched a number of social media and lifestyle networks, including The Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
